Andrew at age 4
It’s never been easy. A ninth grade football injury shifted Andrew’s dreams of playing in the NFL to the more brutal sport of political campaigns. His first real experience in politics was the Mondale campaign in 1984 – tantamount to playing for an Ivy League team against the Colts.
Some call it true grit, others call it masochism – but Andrew stuck it out – and over the course of the next twenty years, he evolved into the only national consultant with a dual expertise in political direct mail and opposition research. Along the way, he managed three winning congressional campaigns, served as Chief of Staff for a Member of Congress, and consulted for campaigns in twenty-seven states, advising at various times twelve Democratic state parties, seventeen Members of Congress, two U.S. Senators, and a Governor.
He’s been a contributor to Politics Magazine, led seminars for the
Democratic National Committee, lectured on politics at Columbia and Fordham Universities, and served as a lead research consultant to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. His congressional clientele currently includes Linda and Loretta Sanchez, Rick Larsen, Adam Smith, Jesse Jackson, Jr., Sanford Bishop, Henry Cuellar, Albio Sires, Joe Sestak, Sheila Jackson Lee, and Senator Tom Carper.
Over the last six years, he’s been a lead mail advisor in successful efforts by the New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware Democratic House Caucuses to win back control of their respective State Houses. He's also served as a key advisor to Delawarean Jack Markell, whose successful 2008 campaign for Governor was considered one of the biggest upsets in the nation.
Andrew’s career has taken some off-beat turns away from politics. He’s survived business school at Yale (School of Management), the trading floor of Lehman Brothers, and the research desk of the MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour.
Besides an unhealthy obsession with politics, Andrew’s other weaknesses include poor finishes in a number of triathlons, a habit of falling while skiing and a terminally messy desk. On a more positive note, Andrew and his lovely wife Eva spend most of their current spare time fawning over Sophie and Lucy, their twin baby girls.
